Santa Clara County is located almost directly in the center of eastern California. It’s largest city and county seat is San Jose. It is probably most known for being home to Silicon Valley, the center of high technology. The tech industry’s concentration of wealth has given it the world’s third-highest GDP per capita, surpassed only by Zurich and Oslo. It is not only the most affluent county on the United States west coast but also the wealthiest in the country after the Washington metropolitan area.
Santa Clara is one of the state’s original colonies, created in 1850 when California officially became a state. Although once promoted for being an area of great natural beauty in the early 20th century, agriculture has been practically eliminated thanks to the Navy and technology companies.
