Marin County is located just on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, and San Rafael is the county seat. It was created in 1850, shortly before California was admitted to the Union, and one of its original 27 counties. Before that, the area had been occupied for thousands of years by the Coast Miwok Indians and their ancestors, a tribe of hunters and gatherers.
Today, Marin County is known mainly for its natural environment, including Muir Woods redwood forest, Mount Tamalpais, Point Reyes National Seashore, Stinson Beach, and the Marin Headlands. According to the last census, Marin County’s average income per capita was $91,483, which was the 5th highest in the United States. The population is just over 250,000.
Several factors make this area a desirable place to live in. Marin County schools offer high-quality education, plus there are numerous health and wellness, public safety, and community resources. Families enjoy this area, as recreation options abound, even for children and teens. There are excellent parks where you can enjoy the outdoors, as well as interesting museums and theaters. The county also maintains a busy events calendar.
Businesses will find a lot of resources and support. And there is also a variety of public transit options for those who commute to work in the county, including ferry services. Marin County’s real estate tends to remain relatively stable.
